New Product Selection
The Product Selection includes a searchable, automatically updated Acuity Brands product database, making it easier than ever to locate information. Find Acuity Brands products and related data such as images, specifications sheets and luminaire models.

Visual® 2012 Licensing

Visual 2012 employs an internet-based, concurrent user license that is managed and stored on the Acuity Brands web servers. A single Internet License allows customers to use Visual on multiple computers, such as in the office or at home. An Internet License provides the following benefits:

  • Licenses are not locked to a single computer
  • Customers do not need to contact Visual support to move a license to another computer
  • Smaller companies can purchase one license to be shared with employees for single use
  • Larger companies can purchase fewer licenses to be shared with employees for multiple use
  • For more information, please refer to Visual 2012 Internet License article in this newsletter.

    Visual® 2012 Pricing

An Internet License for Visual 2012 will be an annual subscription service. An annual subscription fee of $100 provides one seat of an Internet License that can be shared among multiple users. Companies can purchase additional seats per Internet License if they need multiple users to access the software at the same time. Unlimited technical support and software updates are included for the duration of the subscription period

    Visual® Lighting Design Tools

The new free web-based Visual Lighting Design Tools (Area Lighting Tool, Economic Tool, Floodlighting Tool, Interior Lighting Tool, Roadway Lighting Tool, Template Tool and Wall Wash Tool) will replace PC-based Visual Basic Edition and Roadway Lighting Tool.

Is there a free trial period for Visual 2012?

Yes, if you do not have a license for Visual 2012 then you will automatically receive a free 30 day trial period. During the 30 day trial period you have access to a fully functional release of Visual 2012. To activate the free trial period, please refer to the article below.

    Activating Visual 2012

Visual 2012 requires an Activation Code to activate the software. When you start Visual 2012 you will be prompted to enter an Activation Code (you will no longer be prompted to login). You can use this Activation Code on any computer on which you have installed Visual 2012.

    Trial Period License:

    1. Login to your Visual account at
    2. When your account page is displayed you will see a Visual 2012 Trial License with an Activation Code.
    3. Copy the Activation Code and paste into the Visual 2012 Activation screen.
    4. Visual 2012 will now be fully functional for a free 30 day trial period. Once the trial period expires, Visual 2012 will revert to Demo mode with limited functionality.
    5. When you purchase a Visual 2012 license, the Trial License will automatically be converted to an Annual Subscription License and use the same Activation Code, so next time you start Visual 2012 the program will no longer be in trial mode.

    Annual Subscription License:

    1. Login to your Visual account at
    2. When your account page is displayed you will see a Visual 2012 Annual License with an Activation Code.
    3. Copy the Activation Code and paste into the Visual 2012 Activation screen.
    4. Visual 2012 will now be fully functional for one year.
    5. You will be sent an email within 30 days of your one year expiration date to remind you to renew your license. If the annual subscription license is not renewed then Visual 2012 will revert to Demo mode with limited functionality.

    Visual 2012 Internet License

Visual 2012 incorporates a shared internet license that allows multiple users to access the software from any computer. For example, if a company has 20 employees but only expects that 5 employees would simultaneously use Visual, the company can purchase 5 seats for their internet license at a total annual cost of $500 ($100 x 5 seats). All 20 employees can install Visual, but no more than 5 employees can use Visual at the same time.

Visual 2012 requires an Activation Code associated with the license number to activate the software. An Activation Code is required for each computer on which Visual 2012 is installed.

    1. Login to the Visual account that contains the license number at An Activation Code will be displayed next to the license number.
    2. To allow other people to use this license number, you must provide them with an Activation Code. Select the Share button next to the Activation Code to send an email to other users.
    3. Other users can then paste this Activation Code into the Visual 2012 Activation screen after they start the program.

The number of seats (concurrent users) you have per license determines the number of people who can use Visual 2012 at the same time.

NOTE: When you no longer want certain users to run Visual with your license, you can change the Activation Code and send the new Activation Code to a new list of users.
