External Training Sessions Now Available
Training for Visual Professional Edition can now be requested in your area for groups of 15 or more. To request an external training session, please follow the directions below.
1. Making the Request
Contact the Visual trainer, Miranda Bennett, with your request at 1-800-279-8043 (select “Training”) or e-mail her at mbennett@AcuityBrands.com. Miranda will assist you in setting a tentative date for the session and will answer any questions you have regarding the session.
2. Inviting the Participants
To make sure you have the required minimum of 15 participants, we recommend inviting at least 18 participants. However, we recommend inviting no more than 30 participants. If you do not have the required number of participants, there are two steps you can take to find more participants. First, look up Visual users in your area though the Visual Intranet.

Next, try combining your efforts with an Acuity Brands representative in a nearby area. Not only could this help you get the number of participants required, but you may also be able to share the cost for the event.
When you are inviting participants to a Visual Professional Edition training session, please consider each participant’s skill level. First, make sure participants have the required computer skills for the session:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows
- Understanding of Windows Explorer files and folders
- Familiarity with a mouse
Next, consider if your participants have additional skills that will impact the pace of the session. For example, additional skills may include:
- AutoCAD or similar CAD experience
- Familiarity with photometric files
- Lighting design experience
If possible, try to create a group with comparable skills. The more comparable participants’ skills are to one another, the more satisfied they will be with the pace of the session.
3. Providing the Facilities
Facilities should include a projection screen or a blank wall to be used as a projection screen. A table should be provided for the projector. Facilities that allow for some dimming or switching of the lights will provide better contrast for the projection, but this is not required for the session. A podium or table should be provided for the trainer, so they can demonstrate the software while facing the participant audience.
Facilities should include tables and chairs or desks to accommodate all participants. Please make sure tables or desks are spaced far enough apart to allow the trainer to walk behind participants while they are seated. Refer to the facilities shown below for guidance in what type of setup is suitable for a training session. The facilities shown are those used at the Acuity Brands campus in Conyers, GA.
Each participant should have a computer to work on during the session. Each computer should meet or exceed the following specification:
- Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent
- 256MB RAM
- 105MB free space on Hard Drive
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0
- Graphics card with 1024 X 768 resolution or higher and 32 MB RAM
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP
- Internet connection preferred
Computers should be set up a day prior to the session to allow time for the trainer to install software and training files. Please provide a few extra computers in the event of computer failure.

4. Confirming the Session
External training dates must be confirmed 21 days prior to the day of the event to ensure that the Visual trainer is able to secure transportation to the session.
